Geforce 4 - NVidia Drivers and Resolution Problems

I installed openSUSE 11.2 today in my old computer
it’s an Athlon 64 3000+ - 1GB RAM - Geforce 4 mx440 AGP
when i installed it, the resolution was stuck at 800x600, so i went to this site, and downloaded the 1-Click Driver for ‘legacy nvidia’. Now the resolution is stuck at 640x480… i want to set it at 1024x768 or 1280x1024… any answers?

thanks:)

Since no one answered yet I’ll try.

You should check the xorg logs (/var/log/Xorg.NN.log), I suspect that you’re probably NOT running the correct nvidia driver, but vesa or something like that.

Nvidia proprietary drivers are composed of two packages, if memory serves. Check if you don’t have BOTH drivers - current and legacy - installed or, worse, one package from current and the other from legacy. This happened to me once, and I had to remove both and restart X (or reboot).

Try the excellent practical guide by oldcpu here: openSUSE Graphic Card Practical Theory Guide for Users - openSUSE Forums

Good luck.
