Simple Chinese is supported as second language. the primary language is English.
But I can’t open Chinese file using gedit. it only support English?
how can I solve this issue? the Chinese file is GB18030 encoding.
i hate to say this but i guess you probably have to find a Chinese
user who has solved the problem you are having…maybe help is

turns up almost 15,000 hits…i suggest you read several to see if
your problem is a known issue, and probably being worked on…
but, since gedit is a pretty plain and simple text editor (and there
are about a million of those) why not try another… just looked (Menu
> Utilities > Editors) and see i have Kate, Mousepad, Emacs, Scribes
installed…you may have those and others also…
as a work around you might try using YaST to load the basics of KDE
and then try using KWrite
or pick other from here to try:

when you see one that sounds like what you want just pop open YaST and
search for it by name, maybe it is in a repo…

I tried such chinese file on Redhat Enterprise Linux 5.3.
I can open the chinese file using gedit correctly.
seems this issue not gedit’s problem?
only repro on openSUSE?
