GeckoLinux some problems - lacking screensaver , messed up character offsets and fonts, missing packs

Ok, it seems that cairo-dock is not included in the distribution, and also not on Packman anymore.
There are two versions for 42.3 available on openSUSE Software though.

So again, what kernels are installed/available?

I’m not sure what else your pictures are supposed to tell.
Did you manage to solve the other problems now?
If not, what’s left? Although, as already mentioned, it would be better to open specific threads for each different problem anyway.

ref -f :

Wow. Instead of trying to solve your problems first, you added dozens of other repos that may cause additional problems?
Great move. Doesn’t really make it easier to help you though.

zypper up :

The following 144 package updates will NOT be installed:

Yeah, those packages are available in more than one repo now (because you added many more repos), and “zypper up” won’t switch packages to other repos automatically.

se -s libical0 :

As I already wrote meanwhile, libical0 doesn’t exist anymore since years.

PS, your font problem looks like it may be caused by using a proportional font in the terminal app. Terminal emulators normally don’t work well with those.
Try to enter its settings and choose a different, monospaced, font.

The reason for that may be that the font that is used by default is not installed (so installing it might fix it too), but I have no idea what the default font would be there. Maybe hack-fonts?

The Font looks great now

I don’t need libical0 ! Cairo Dock’s Calendar and Clock need many packages … And other plugins … And YaST warns can’t install dependencies …

I installed it at last …

But thanks …

I will search for selecting Cinnamon in Tumbleweed installation and wait for Mr **Knurpht **for tips and notes which might help …

So kernel 4.4.126 is installed. But you need to boot it as well.
Did you reboot after the update?
Try to choose it in “Advanced Options” and/or set it as default in YaST->Boot Loader if it shouldn’t get used automatically.

I refreshed repos as you asked . Vivaldi added some repositories , Then installed community versions of Cairo Dock from openSUSE and it added some …

I highly doubt that these added KDE:Qt5 and KDE:Frameworks5 though.

I don’t need libical0 !

I just replied to the output of “zypper se -s libical0”.
It cannot find the package because it doesn’t exist. Nothing wrong there, as already explained.

Cairo Dock’s Calendar and Clock need many packages … And other plugins … And YaST warns can’t install dependencies …

What exactly? How do you expect help with such generic statements?

As cairo-dock is not part of the distribution, it’s dependencies are not necessarily part of the distribution either.
But the repos you added should provide them, if they are intended for Leap 42.3 at least.
So post your list again.

I rolled them back it to Ubuntu Regular , But still messy …
Maybe after reboot can be fixed

“Ubuntu Regular” is not a font that’s available on a standard openSUSE installation… (unless it is somehow installed by your cinnamon packages) So as fallback a proportional one may be used.

Try to set an existing one.

For the terminal use monospace regular

Hi there, just to be clear, GeckoLinux ships with all of the normal openSUSE OSS and non-OSS repos, plus Packman with a lower weight (higher priority). There are also Google, Skype, and Nvidia repos enabled but nothing installed by default from them. All the other repos you see in the quoted part above were added by the user, and probably contributed to the issues he ran into.

As for the Cinnamon screensaver, nothing has been “disabled” by me (the GeckoLinux creator), and it behaves the way it always does in Cinnamon.

I’d say that’s the most important part right there!!! It doesn’t matter that it’s “based” on openSUSE.
The fact is, that it’s “NOT” openSUSE and we shouldn’t be doing any kind of support for it. Period!

I do not know who is the “we” here, but on these forums, we are just users that try to help other users. Of course only as long as we are able and willing to do so. Thus everybody here can contribute in this thread as wanted and at the same time explaining that they are not really using the product and that it will deviate from “official” openSUSE. One can also stop contributing to a thread without any explanation needed and leave it to others to come to a conclusion or not.

But “we” here are not really supporting anything. We are just trying to bundle knowledge to help each other.

I understand.

Excellent answer!!! Thanks for saving me the effort.:good:
