GDM and GNOME won't start after upgrade to 3.8

I was using tumbleweed then I decided to do a fresh 12.3 install and add the GNOME 3.8 repo.
After the installation I immediately added the relevant repos and did a distribution upgrade. I rebooted the system afterward only to find out that GDM didn’t start. I tried to start it manually but failed. It didn’t even display a terminal output through tvt. I started lightdm manually. Lightdm worked but I couldn’t log in to GNOME. If I attempted to log in, I would be immediately logged out. I logged in with iceWM and was able to receive the following terminal outputs for some gnome apps:
**Nautilus: **

Hi
Did you run zypper patch first, Did you use the --from GNOME:Stable:3.8
with the dup?

I would have installed and updated with the default repos, updated
gnome then added your additional repositories…

Hello Malcolm!
No I didn’t run zypper patch nor did I use the --from GNOME:Stable:3.8 option. However, I’m running the --from GNOME:Stable:3.8 option right now. There seems to be a few differences and zypper is currently downloading a few extra files. Do you think I should have downgraded back to 3.6 and then upgraded again using the --from GNOME:Stable:3.8 option? I guess I’m about to find out the hard way.

After performing zypper dup --from GNOME:Stable:3.8 I can now successfully log in to GNOME. However, I still can’t get GDM to start. I still have to use Lightdm to start X and use a DE.

Hi
It may come right, but normally running the patch command would pull in
all the other updates, but hopefully it has done the switch of the
relevant files…

Me, I would reinstall fresh and start over again.

You did a “zypper dup” with all repos enabled, which means that you get
the higher version package, from whatever repo that has it, and for
every package (not only the gnome ones). You end with a mixture of
packages, which is why you get a big warning at the start when you do a
“zypper dup”.

So at this moment is very difficult to know what you have and how to repair.
