FYI
System
openSUSE 12.1

Problems just started about a week ago. Don’t know if related to re-sizing my home partition using gparted, but I doubt it. AFAIK no relevant updates or new software installed at that time.
**
Red herrings**
Although it might look like Nepomuk going haywire, it’s not Nepomuk but another search/index app (see below)
Because of screen tearing, I considered a kernel and/or video/xOrg issue but it’s not
**
Symptoms Description**
System slows, eventually freezes.
Running top, only <sometimes> tracker-minor-fs grabs 100% CPU usage, but not always
Can experience video “tearing”
Occurs after User Login, although does not require run Firefox, an actively running Firefox seems to greatly aggravate the probllem.

What does Tracker-Miner-FS do?
From available documentation, supposedly this app indexes your browser bookmarks (?!)
Although I have a ton of bookmarks, I’m surprised there is any benefit to indexing them

Resolution
(Seems to be immediate and permanent so far)
Using YAST, I removed the miner-tracker package and although may not be necessary force-updated the Firefox packages anyway.

HTH,
TSU

I just disable tracker-miner within firefox.

I think it is only installed because I have installed Gnome (in addition to the KDE that I normally use).
