I have installed openSuse 11.2 recently and I am getting distortion on my dual display. I have the nVidia GeForce Go 6150 video card and installed the nVidia drivers from the Opensuse site.
I was able to get the dual display up and running but sometimes there is distortion on the display. It looks like the pixels on some lines of the display are being shifted horizontally back and forth real quickly.
I use the same monitor with my Windows work laptop with an nVidia Quadro card with no distortion ever.
Any ideas on what the cause is or how I can fix it? I was thinking it was a driver problem. Are the drivers provided on the openSuse site the most up to date?
As you may have noticed from the real URL popping up somewhere during the install the NVIDIA drivers (the ‘official’ ones anyway) are located on NVIDIAs own server and should be fairly up to date. You could doublecheck it by starting up software management and searching for nvidia, then look up the installed package and check the Installed (available) column.
In my case its 190.42-9.1.
Look up the latest drivers on the nvidia site and at the top it will list the latest version (for my card 190.42)
This may sound like a silly question, but did you doublecheck the cable was properly attached at both ends? If it isn’t properly in place flickering and distortions aren’t uncommon (OS independent)
Thanks for the response. I do have the most recent driver for Linux but think there may be some issue with it. The cable is also tight.
I see that the latest Windows driver is version 195.62 so I will just wait for an update to come out. My display does not flicker at lower resolutions so I’ll just stick to the 1650x1080 until then.
