It all started when I updated my opensuse TW kernel to 6.6.1 and after that update my computer acting weird. The day I install the update and reboot my system… It seem fine until it freeze then reboot itself. I try to boot my system couple of times and the same thing is happening even on my tty. Until my system won’ t let me boot be literally won’t let me. Then when I touch my PC on the other side it’s so HOT! Even though I wasn’t doing anything. So after a few minutes and cool off my PC I turn my PC back on and roll back to old Kernel. My problem of freezing and overheating my system are gone. But the new problem is when I game (GW2) my system goes full on system freeze after 5 or 10 minutes of game play and right now the same thing happened again my PC won’t let me boot in. I gave up I don’t know what the problem that cause my PC to act up weird. This never happened to my PC almost all opensuse updates are going smooth but this Kernel 6.6.1 causing me alot of trouble. Anyway can you guys give me a tip to fix this issue?
(couldn’t Edit my previous Reply, so deleted for correction).
Open a command line window and execute the following then paste the output using the Preformatted Text option on the toolbar (icon: </>)
Please include the command executed and it’s output.
Command to execute at the CLI:
prompt:~> inxi -GSCaz
Which hardware do you have? That will help better please.
Also, if on nvidia, wait until the drivers are recompiled for the new kernel, then update.
This was already covered by myswtests’s request for information.
This is nonsense. If the driver would need to be recompiled, his machine wouldn’t even start…reading the initial post shows clearly that the system starts, but freezes later (because of overheating…or the overheating is the result).
Sorry for the late reply but I can’t do that since my PC won’t boot. It power on but the screen just black. I can’t go to bois setting or anything becuase my system won’t show me anything
I only use amd
Which filesystem? If btrfs you can rollback. Of course, that won’t work if your pc doesn’t even boot into grub.
If it is, then it is a sign of a hardware problem.
If you can, take it to your local it technician to diagnose the problem.
Due to the overheating, some components of your system may be damaged.
- do the fans still start after pressing the power button?
- do you get beep or LED codes from your mainboard?
- is it a discrete AMD GPU or a integrated one?
It is not entirely clear if the kernel update was the reason for your system damage. It might only be a coincidence that your system died at this time…
I do the rollback with snapper but like I said the problem still persist. I don’t know what happened but it all started when 6.6.1 kernel update
I try to plug out my hard drive and then plug it in. Just now. And try to boot my PC and now I’m on my i3wm
And heads up I rollback on my 6.5.9 kernel.
is it a discrete AMD GPU or a integrated one?
Integrated one
do you get beep or LED codes from your mainboard?
after I reboot my system Yes.
Depended on your mainbord/BIOS manufacturer, you could check if they provide a table which explanation for the codes. This codes are used to identify hardware failures…
Only an example:
My mother don’t have speaker that beep codes just a light
Similar tables exist for LED codes…
To gain a better understanding of your overall hardware setup, execute following command and post the output here:
inxi -Fz
Thanks for the help, sir, and to other very smart person in this thread. Because for some reason my PC is doing good right now. After it boot and I try to see if there’s new update and updated it. But if something happened again I’ll try to update this thread again. Thank you!
Update: It turns out that one of my RAM slots are damage because of the Overheating cause of Kernel 6.6.1 and thought I need to buy new ram stick. But thank Gahh I don’t have too. But need to buy new motherboard cuz my motherboard can’t read my other ram sticks
i have exactly the same problem: booting from 6.6.1 starts but the screen remains black. On booting I used 6.5.9-1 instead, and this works well. I don’t appear to have any hardware problems as a result of the failed 6.6.1, I’m hoping a new version will be able boot ok, i keep trying!!
