10.3 openSUSE was no good:
sis191 Gigabit was not recognised by the kernel. I fixed the problem by editing the kernel and recompiling it. But the result was no good either:

The problem was in
HWaddr FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF
11.0 openSUSE went ok, even recognised the controller’s
correct MAC-address(aka NIK-address,HardWare address), but issuing
route
with connected local network cable yields nothing: just hangs with no result whatever.
Btw, KDE’s wouldn’t install: a black screen with an xterm after full install (no graphics); GNOME: installs allright, but yast always says it can’t access media.
