FTP repositories dont work?

Hi!

Im trying to add an FTP repository (ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.opensuse.org/opensuse/distribution/11.0/repo/oss) to YAST, but it just says that the connection timed out after a while. I can add http repos, but the problem is that http is throttled and with a 5mb limit per file here where i work. FTP is unmetered. So i need to add an ftp mirror only. Please let me know how to proceed.

  • kalpik,

check with your firewall admin. My guess is you are behind a proxy or some such.

Hi! thanks for replying… Im not behind a FTP proxy. I think its more to do with active FTP connection… Only passive FTP connections are allowed on my network… Any clue where i can change that?

Edit /root/.curlrc (create it if it doesn’t exist) and add the line
–ftp-pasv

Doesnt work… Yast is ignoring .curlrc :frowning:

Is your SuSEfirewall2 running? If so, stop it and see if it makes a difference.

And you can download files from that repo with a normal FTP client?
