From the bottom of my hart, F**K Linux

I am so f****king tired of installing linux only to find out that your graphics card needs some special tweeking or my sound is full of static noice and so on. Yes I know sudo this and sudo that. or “it is only” to do this or that. I have over the years (+15) off and on been playing around with linux and it is just as unstable as it has ever been. If you are lucky and have the correct hardware you might get lucky. Im sorry but this is the last time I devote my time to linux. I think it is spot on that Linux has a none flying bird as a mascot. Linux like the Penguin will always be stuck on the ground hoping for more

Grrrr

Chris

If you have a specific aspect we can help you with, please advise. This is only your 2nd post, so it does not appear you have asked for too much help previous.

Regardless, there are many users present on our forum who probably would try real hard to give you a hand to get over the difficulties you encountered.

Else, if nothing we can help you with, then this thread will be moved to soap box.

@oldcpu, we talked a few days ago about such threads, didn’t we?

@xorfodan, go back to Windows or learn how to ask questions. Last warning! If you want to rant, I suggest the blogosphere

For those tracking this tread, lets give xorfodan a chance to ask some specific questions wrt what is causing his frustration and how he has asked us to aid … xorfodan, I note Camaleón tried to assist you here, but you did not reply to his efforts: Monitor problem - openSUSE Forums

Our forum is here to help users, … there are not many developers on this forum. We do not code the Linux software, but we do try to help.

So please provide specific questions (with appropriate technical details) so that help efforts can be made.

I would suggest that if he really needs help, he starts a new thread and explain his problem with as much details as possible. Not in this one since his post is 1) not directly problem related as it doesn’t state what exactly the problem is - it is a fed-up rant thread, and 2) very provocative and if kept alive, will eventually no doubt explode thus wasting time of all who participated in it just so in the end it will be closed (and people banned due to it)

oldcpu, you have a heart of gold…
my hats off to you…for trying…that helpful attitude is wonderful,
really!

however, personally i think you are wasting you time with this guy…

i mean, 15+ years (puts him almost helping Linus write the first seeds
of the kernel) and STILL he can’t get it right???

smart guy, huh?

nah, i’d guess he does not want help…

brassy

brassy, and every one else on this thread. Please, no criticism. Lets be positive. Lets let the original poster ask a technical question that we can try and help them with.

I understand the frustration everyone has, and feel free to start a new soap box thread about such rants.

But please, no more RANTS in this thread.

My finger is on the “unapprove” key

I do know that there is a lot of nice people here, willing to give a helping hand, don’t get me wrong. I this case I do agree that my manner was not the best, I needed to blow of some steam. I wasn’t directing my rant to anyone in particular ( Maybe a little bit to ATI )

Cheers

Chris

Thanks xorfodan.

The frustration burns in all of us some times.

When the time is right for you, please make a technical post, … possibly start a new thread, and I am confident various users will try help.

Cheers! And welcome to our forum.

I must say that you show the world how a real moderator takes care of an “old fart” like me  We’ll see if I come to my senses and get my hands dirty again.

Thanks

Chris

But your post shows off your ignorance of why linux doesnt support all hardware.
Graphics card issues are not the fault of linux, linux is a system made by volunteers and people who dont get paid much for their services.
The real blame goes to ATI, who has always been a thorn in the side of linux.
To use linux one must know of its limitations, BUT also be aware that those limitations are no fault of linux.

I am going to lock this thread for a while. Please make any support requests in the appropriate technical subform area, or general commentary in the Soap Box area.

NNTP users, please do NOT reply to posts in this thread.

Thank you.

yep…i would’da told you to buzz off!

there are some other “old pharts” here who are willing to try to help
(me being one, but i don’t cotton to the way you began)…

but, (HINT) dump that ATI–buy a nVidia card and load their
proprietary driver and most of your frustration will be history…

[you do NOT even have to go and buy some expensive new card…my
nVidia GeForce FX 5500 (which runs fine) is less than $30 at several
eBay places…]
