I have a fresh Tumbleweed install with KDE Plasma, full disk encryption enabled in the installer using password only (no TPM2 enrollment).
After install the system booted and worked normally. I then ran zypper update -y and rebooted. Now it asks for the LUKS passphrase three times, then reaches [black screen / KDE Overview with no panel and no windows…
I did a fresh install twice.
booting to the pre update snapshot, gives same result.
Couple of questions i have;
How can i troubleshoot this
is the b580 supported (i believe it is in the past ive used tumbelweed on this machine and it just uses mesa drivers)
to be honest; just muscle memory, have been doing it for every on sles and leap servers. I’ll do a reinstall for a third time and do a ‘dup’, we’ll see. Otherwise ill try slowroll
Yes, zypper update (or zypper patch) is correct for Leap (or SLES), but Tumbleweed and Slowroll are different beasts and need zypper dup since occasionally packages are downgraded as well.
I reinstalled Tumbleweed once again. After installation and boot I did a zyper dup instead of update.
Guess what… it works fine, rebooted it a couple of times and it just works. Only thing is that it asks me 2 times to put in my luks password, but i can live with that.
Update might downgraded a couple of packages or at least did something that broke KDE. I’ll be using dup from now on. Thank you!
