Fresh 11.1 install, nvidia driver problem

Anyone know what this means:

This is a fresh install of 11.1 64bit, I did all the online updates.

give us

uname -a

(are you using the default kernel or PAE??) I know you don’t need PAE, but just check, I keep seeing it installed by default.

Yeah, I’ve seen that too, very odd!

uname -a gives:

Linux linux-iluj 2.6.27.7-9-default #1 SMP 2008-12-04 18:10:04 +0100 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

What is odd is that I didn’t have this problem the last time I installed this exact version, on the exact same laptop!

Here’s a list of the enabled repos if that helps::

Hmm, after seeing this thread here…

Nvidia 180.29 ready - openSUSE Forums

it looks like I might just have chosen the exact wrong time to try a fresh install :sarcastic:.

Good info , was kind of wondering about this as well .

Hi,
It seems the Nvidia driver needs a newer kernel.
Take a look at my thread here Nvidia driver wont install - openSUSE Forums

or wait for the Kernel to be updated the normal way.

You can install the new version 180.29 using the “Hard Way”.
personally i like it this way.
