FreeType for Calibre too low

Hi, for several weeks I have been trying to update Calibre, but without success.
I always update via command line, like the author suggests.
Here is the output from terminal:

> 2024-11-08 08:13:02 URL:https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.sh [35050/35050] -> "-" [1]
> Using python executable: /usr/bin/python3
> Your system has too old a version of the FreeType library. freetype >= 2.11 is needed for the FT_Get_Color_Glyph_Paint function which is required by Qt WebEngine

I don’t know what to do. Waiting for FreeType maintainers to upgrade.
Any help from anybody?

When I was faced with the same issue, I downloaded the community libfreetype6 package from openSUSE Software

Chose version 2.13.2
As I see now in Yast, my copy was that from fabio_s:harmony - but I guess any other present there will do just the same; I did a “Expert download” link which got me the RPM package file and I did install it manually, via Konsole.

Just a few minutes ago I did the latest update of Calibre, to version 721, via terminal as well (still Konsole), and it worked as expected.

P.S. I see I have both 64 bit and 32 bit packages installed of that libfreetype6 package; frankly I don’t remember if the 32-bit one was requested by Calibre as well, so do notice that you may need it also.

Thanks for this information.
I will consider it if Calibre I am using will be unusable.
Right now I will wait - maybe freetype2 packagers will update it.

I followed your link and did the Expert Download of libfreetype6-2.13.2-lp156.230.4.x86_64.rpm for Leap 15.6 from Sauerland’s repo. I installed with YaST. For some reason it wanted to install two Broadcom fies. I chose to not install them, and libfreetype 6 installed OK. I updated Calibre from version 7.16 to 7.21 and it runs correctly.

Calibre is a very complicated piece of software for many reasons.
