free openSUSE 11.0 boxed version arrived today

Today I got the openSUSE 11.0 boxed version delivered. I must say it looks nice. Sleek box and professionally done.

Also a nice surprise : It’s one (dual-layer) DVD for both 32 bit and 64 bit installs! First time I’ve seen that.

Cheers & thanks openSUSE.org!,

I think starting with SuSE-9.2, and carrying on with 9.3, 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 and now 11.0 that the DVD was a dual layer with 32-bit and 64-bit. It is just in the previous versions there was a separate DVD with the source code. I think 10.2 was the last version where CDs were included with the boxed version.

Did it come with case badges?

I remember a version where the DVD was double capacity, but flip-over. Obviously no printing except some tiny print around the inner hub. Confused the heck out of my friend who put it in the wrong way by chance and found that he was looking at the sources. He though they had forgotten to include an install DVD.

It comes with two suse stickers which I almost lost when taking everything out of the box. Easy to miss.

Yep, two:)

I took my goodies out of the carton & was about to throw it away & thought to look. Sure enough they were there down in the box – not a big as earlier ones though.

A friend purchased a music album several years back and ended up getting two cd’s…the top one was printed as it should have been…both the top and bottom one had the music but the 1st side of bottom one was blank because it had stuck to the top one during the printing phase. I still have that cd in my changer in the other room.

Say hello to my little friend!

I recieved mine today. I have to say the box is SLICK…

Threw one of the badges on my laptop (abit crooked may I add)…

Oh well… I’m spreadin’ the love at work and whoring out the book

How did you get a free openSUSE 11.0 boxed version, not that I can use it (no DVD drive in my Laptop).?

It was as a thank you for actively testing during the alpha/beta phase of openSUSE 11.0.

Ah… so they are well earned!

On a side-note… where can one get case-badges and what do they look like?

Yeah, I found that location after I posted. Anywhere to get the actual (physical) stickers, not just the images?

Google for “Linux case badges” and you’ll find plenty of sites that sell them. I generally buy mine from ThinkGeek since I like that store.
