Codeweavers is giving away CrossOver for Linux for FREE this Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 for 24 hours. You get 12 months of support for free too. I have a two year subscription that cost me $90 USD. I use this free libre open source software application to install, configure, and run Microsoft Windows software applications. It’s much easier than WINE. It’s based upon WINE as a matter of fact.
Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux allows you to install, configure, and run select Microsoft Windows software application native on GNU/Linux. It is based on WINE, but it has a useful graphical user interface to make things much easier to install and run Microsoft Windows software applications on GNU/Linux. It’s easy to use and it comes with tons of pre-built bottles so that installation and execution are simple and easy. You don’t need to figure out anything on your own.
This website will tell you more information about specific Microsoft Windows software applications including details and tips and tricks to make it work properly. It will also tell you what is compatible and it will tell you the medal award rating for each one. It’s a gold mine of information and data.
Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux adheres to FLOSS. Rest assured that every purchase generates 50 percent of code given to the WINE project so all *NIX users will benefit. Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux gives you early access to new Microsoft Windows software applications especially PC games. That’s the key difference. It makes it easy to install and run Windows software applications.
I can install and run the following Microsoft Windows software applications using Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux 32 bit on OpenSuSE 64 bit Tumbleweed version 11.2.1:
TweetDeck
Amazon Kindle for PC
Google Picasa 3.9.x
Microsoft Office 2010 32 bit Professional Plus SP-1
Valve Corporation’s Steam Client for Windows including Sid Meier’s Civilization V with additional DLCs, Portal, and Sniper Elite PC games
Intuit Quicken Deluxe 2011 and 2012
I need Intuit Quicken Deluxe 2011 or 2012 and I need Amazon Kindle for PC to work. Microsoft Office 2010 32 bit is just pure gravy for me. I rarely play PC games, but it is nice to be able to play Civilization V, Portal, and Sniper Elite. I might purchase more PC games to play in the future.
Remember, Codeweavers is giving away CrossOver for Linux and Apple Macintosh OS X for free on Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 from 00:00 - 23:59 CST (-6 GMT). You have 24 hours to get it for free with 12 months of free support to troubleshoot specific technical issues. This is a $59.99 USD value for free. No strings attached except you only have October 31st, 2012 to get it for free with 12 months of free support.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity. It only comes once every four years.
I already purchased a two year subscription, but I told my best friend who uses Ubuntu 12.04.1 64 bit LTS about this special deal and I hope that he will take advantage of it.
Don’t be fool and ignore this special opportunity. Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux makes it dead simple and easy to install, configure, update, and run Microsoft Windows software applications native in GNU/Linux or Apple Macintosh OS X. You get it for free with 12 months of free support.

i got it four years ago also…but then never used it…not even
once…i mean i have no reasome to use it? i do all i need to do without
any microsoft software or operating system whatsoever!
so, i had and have nothing to run with it!
oh wait, i have some Windows 3.1 software i’d like to use again
(CorelDRAW 3, and Paradox to name two)…does CrossOver support Win3.1
apps??
i have a big pile of those (Word Perfect, Lotus, WinFax, Netscape, and
some others i can’t now recall)…have bought none since 1995…
by the way, they all worked until Win95 came out and then they all had
to be replaced…progress they called it…i called it robbery and
dropped M$.
I have to admit, I had a similar experience.
Bought Codeweavers numerous times mostly to fund
the effort to bring games to Linux. Over time though
it became apparent that gaming under Wine was never going
to reach parity with native software so I stopped buying
it and invested in virtualization via VMware. The only
windows apps that I do need to work on Linux such that I could
get rid of Windows never worked properly under Crossover
and they are too obscure to ever have their problems
addressed. So I like WINE/Codeweavers in spirit, it’s
just not practically useful for me. I do wish Jeremy and
the employees at Codeweavers success though.

As did I. I’ve continued the support subscription in order to support
their development/contribution to the WINE project, even though I only
have a few apps that I use it for (Spotify being my current most-used
app).

Yep, that’s true - I participated this time around as well, and fully
intend to get the extension (as my current extension is nearly up).
virtualdub with the deshaker pluggin - runs fine under wine
MS-Office - does not work for me in wine (it does run under Virtual Box with WinXP)
Custom satellite monitoring software (from our organization) - does not run under wine (it does run under Virtual Box with WinXP)
I tried Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux the last time this offer was made, and used it to install MS-Office. The copy/paste from Power Point to MS-Word, and from Excel to MS-Word, did not work well for my install, so I removed CrossOver office and went back to using a Virtual machine with winXP for MS-Office. Note I nominally use Open Office (now Libre Office) but for work (my paid job) where there are some custom files created with MS-Office (by other’s at the office) I have no choice but to use MS-Office for 100% compatibility.
I may try Codeweavers CrossOver for Linux this time as well. Its possible MS-Office will run better, but I doubt that our Custom satellite monitoring software will function, as it also requires .NET Framwork (older verion-3.5) and even though an older version, I don’t expect that to work.
So I suspect it not likely I will leave this installed after testing.

Another option is VirtualBox, which has a similar option. I mentioned I
need FrameMaker (I think) for work that I do, and it doesn’t run under
WINE - I’ve taken to running it in VirtualBox and using seamlessrdp to
run it “on my desktop”. Works pretty well, and means that if I have a
desktop crash (which seems to happen sometimes after doing a resume from
hibernate), I don’t lose the VM.

Chances are once you’re registered, you’re fine - you get the 12 month
entitlement which lets you download whenever you want.

rpm…maybe the “rpm” is just a script and it will download a lot during
the rpm’s install…so, maybe fetch the “rpm” today, and install
tomorrow…
hey, install it late tonight and get all you can out of your monthly
allottment.
