Freaking slow speed download 11.4 iso!

What heppened to suse site today? Tried to download a 11.4 Live CD,but at freaking slow speed! >:(

Just tried the KDE-live-CD and it downloads at 1.8MB/sec (my maximum download bandwidth). No problems here.

U mean the iso from KDE website? It’s based on 11.3 instead of 11.4…

Downloading openSUSE 11.4 Live Gnome at full speed as I write.

I suggest you stop your torrents.

Seems OK here, but “slow” is a relative term. Can you tell us which
specific image you were downloading, what the actual Kb/s speed reported
by your tool was, what the tool is that you’re using to download
(torrent, Firefox, Chrome, etc)?

you say “suse site” when in fact instead of “a site” there is a network
of sites all over the globe which donate space and bandwidth to
openSUSE and other open source software…

so, to me it sounds like bad luck…the luck of the draw of which mirror
you hit…

if/when that happens again just manually pick a mirror near you:

No, I downloaded the 11.4-KDE-live CD from opensuse.org.

Which command? Which mirror? Which protocol?

Just finish the installation. Yesterday took me 4 hours to get it,I was using Downthemall add on in Firefox to get a 11.4 KDE iso from opensuse.org,tried all mirror in Asia, all sucks, speed at 20KB/s & pop up ‘size error’ every 10 minutes…then found a Japan mirror, which sucks at first 100MB,but came to 130KB/s for the remaining.

ah, you’re located in asia, that explains it. i wouldn’t suspect the
mirrors, but your local internet connection. for me, in rural west bengal
(india), it’s a common occurence that connections to some or all parts of
the world are severly limited, provided my connection to the local ISP
works ok, which is far from being the norm.

i often run mtr from a console to find out where exactly the connection
hangs. most often it’s inside india.

FYI folks. I just tried several US mirrors and the 5 I tried from openSUSE Download Mirrors - 11.4, had all very slow downloads, 20kps or 50kps no more. Would have taken 3 to 5 hours to get the 11.4 KDE 23 bit ISO. I tried all US mirrors and Im in Louisiana. There’s no excuse for that. They all cant be flukes and I know my side is working properly. It’s the middle of the night so I would not expect a lot of traffic. Here is the fastest I have found so far. DL will take less than an hour at my top DSL speed which is 350kps.

Index of /opensuse/distribution/11.4/iso/

Use that one. Lots of slow mirrors on that list !

Using a download accelerator on this side of the pond (Europe) I typically download a liveCD in ~2 minutes or so, and a DVD in something like ~13 minutes.

On Wednesday night this week in fact, I downloaded 4 x liveCDs and 1 x DVD of openSUSE that way, and those were the speeds (times) I attained.

What makes you think that the problem is NOT on your end ?
