I had that for several months (running latest Firefox). If I only close that tab and later(even the day after) open a new connection to the forum I’m still logged in and online, but If I try to post something I have to log in again.
If I also close Firefox and start it up again and connect to the forum I will be not logged in and not online… Yes its annoying :.

This is not an uncommon recommendation - my bank’s websites recommend
this as well. It is the most secure way of making sure someone else
isn’t going to access cached information.
