Force an application to appear on specific virtual desktop

Dear all
I would like to ask your help concerning controlling the windows in virtual desktop.
Thus I need some help understand if it is possible to

a) Say to a application to be launched to virtual desktop 2 for example.

b) How can you ask from a virtual application to be only visible at one virtual desktop.
For example I work on virtual desktop 6 and I want to start skype that should be on virtual desktop 2. Right now If I launch the app on virtual desktop 6 it will appear on the same one. Would it be possible to ask for an applicaiton to be launched on an other virtual desktop. If yew how?

I would liek to thank you in advance for your help

You’ll need to tell us which desktop environment you’re using in order
for someone to be able to provide you with specific instructions on how
to do what you want, if it’s possible to do so with the DE you’re using.

which one would that be? (the latest version which came with 11.4 is KDE
4.6.0, but there are later versions in non-oss repos, and factory and on
kde.org’s site…)

never mind…i don’t know the answer to your question no matter which
version it is.

In KDE click on the top left corner of the window there are advanced
settings in the menu (I see it in german now, sorry) and you can set
application specific settings, one of them is on which desktop you want to
open the program, this change will be valid also for the future if you
choose to apply the setting at “initialization” in the combo box and a
specific desktop.

Eee PC 1201n: oS 11.4 64 bit | Intel Atom 330@1.60GHz | KDE 4.6.5 | nVidia
ION | 3GB Ram

great! thanks for the answer.
Is nt also possible when you launch the launcher by (alt+f2) to ask the app to be launched to specific virtual desktop?
for example skype --launch-at-virtual-desktop-2

Tried it and made the trick… it would be also nice to have that feature when I try to launch it through the alt+f2 screen.

martin pointed you in right direction “specific program settings” its nice little tricks out there  unfortunately you can not force from alt+f2 where to open new windows . . .
