Would not it be a good idea to propose the introduction of a
yast module for configuring the webcam?
Considering what is already available i guess that many more people have a webcam than a TV card, for which a Yast module for configuration is already available.
Something that the module could implement is a little test routine that attempts to activate the webcam with different gspcav modules and then the user can choose the one that fits best.
Sorry to appear maybe inopportune but i am not elegible for opensuse membership.
If any member of the openFATE service thinks this could be a good idea please foward it.
Unfortunately, feature requests on openfate cannot be viewed without logging in, for now anyway. You can get a novell account really easily and it lets you access just about everything opensuse related.
Here’s a summary of the feature request linked to by digitaltomm:
Users in trouble with webcam configuration need a webcam configuration possibility in YaST. As the usage of webcams is rising, eg. through instant messanger this feature request adresses more and more users
Webcam is configured automatically. But for users having trouble with configuration a webcam configuration module would be useful. See also bug #359729
