Because I use Linux I’ve stayed away from bluray.
So while reading another distro forum I came across this.

If anyone here has a bluray disc could you give it a try & let us know?

I was indeed able to watch Bluray disks under Linux for a while … seemingly until I tried a newer Bluray which invalidated all the keys in this file within my player hardware. This is a “nice” feature of Bluray that players have databases for revoked keys. A true killer feature.
Thanks to the following link http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/ I got my bluray player to work. It is able to play a disc from 2012, so I’m perfectly ok with that.
However I did do the following before watching the bluray:
I installed the mentioned codecs. But when it comes to the AACS, you have to create the directory in which the website tells you to put the codec (it took a few tries before I found that out). Then I installed VLC; after that VLC plays bluray discs perfectly. The only qualm I have with it is that the playback is a bit jerky at first. But as the movie continues, the video smooths out very nicely.
The only question I have is this: is there a way to increase the buffer so as to make the video play more smooth? I haven’t found out where I can increase the buffer in VLC; if anyone knows that would be great. I know where to increase it in playing DVD, and I don’t suspect that would help (but I could be wrong).
