Hello all
I am trying to change (Add/Delete) few fonts in openSUSE 42.1. At times, I am successful but many times, it just freezes the system. Then Ctrl+Alt+Delete fails to Shut Down/ Reboot/ Log Out openSUSE (even after hours of inactivity). Under these circumstances, I have to switch off the UPS in order to use the system.
Please help me in rectifying this fault.
Thanks.
You mean in KDE’s systemsettings5 (Configure Desktop)?
That’s a known problem, the module hangs when installing fonts system-wide.
But it shouldn’t “freeze” the whole system.
Try to kill systemsettings5.
But killing systemsettings5 asks for “process or Job IDs”
How to find out the Job IDs.
Hm?
You don’t need a “Job ID” to kill a program.
Use KDE’s system monitor (press Ctrl+ESC), or run “killall systemsettings5”.
Just closing the (main) window should let you kill it too.
The problem is that KDE Plasma is frozen and won’t let you do certain things. Open a terminal, enter
top
look for the number of systemsettings5 and then enter
kill <number>
I cannot confirm this. systemsettings5 freezes, yes, but not the Desktop.
Btw, the problem should be fixed in KDE Frameworks 5.16.0 and Plasma 5.4.3, which have been submitted as update for Leap 42.1 as well.
