Now my next challenge/question.
I use the folder view on my laptop but on boot tonight the icons from the ./Desktop folder are missing from the desktop (but are still in ./Desktop), I have a scroll bar on the right hand side of the screen and the launcher opens aligned top left rather than bottom left. Anyone have any ideas what has happened now? Is it me?

I have seen this before. Right click the Desktop, change to the Grid View and say OK. Then Go Back in and pick Folder View again. Your icons will be back, but lost the original order. I don’t know why it does this for sure.
Thank You,
Tried that and yes, it did fix the problem. I wonder where KDE is getting confused?

So I have two installs with openSUSE 11.4 on similar computers and one has done this many times while the other I recall it only once. But, its got to be a KDE issue and with the next release of openSUSE we will be leaving 4.6 way behind and so I have not paid a lot of attention to the KDE issue of late.
Thank You,
One possibility is that there is contaminated information in the session cache that is in “/var/tmp”. When something weird is happening, try logout, go to a virtual terminal (CTRL-ALT-F1), login there as self and delete that cache. Then logout, use CTRL-ALT-F7 to get back to the GUI screen, login and see if it is fixed. That will cause the cache to be rebuilt from your settings.
