Folder /home/user/bin gone after update

Hello,

today I did the update to KDE 5.15, Frameworks 5.55.0 and kernel 4.20.7.1 (TW 20190214).
After the update I rebooted, which didn’t happen immediately, so after a number of trials I shut down the computer.
When the system had rebooted, I ( and KDE) could not find the /home/user/bin folder. There I store some important scripts and also programs that come as zip files ( or other)
It seems the folder has completely disappeared (and I did certainly NOT delete it!). I need this folder and don’t understand why neither Dolphin nor MC can find it.

IS there a reason why it is gone (which I would not understand) and is there a way to find it?

Thanks a lot

Jay

Did that yesterday.

After the update I rebooted, which didn’t happen immediately, so after a number of trials I shut down the computer.

Yes, it ignored my attempts to reboot. And then it ignored my attempts to logout.

I think I then tried CTRL-ALT-DEL and it ignored that.

So I tried CTRL-ALT-F1 which did give me a command line login. There, I logged in as root, and ran:

shutdown -r now

for a clean reboot.

Shutdown/reboot from the desktop is fine after that, so the shutdown problem was only temporary – probably because of all of the software being update while the desktop was running.

When the system had rebooted, I ( and KDE) could not find the /home/user/bin folder. There I store some important scripts and also programs that come as zip files ( or other)

I’m not having that problem. My “bin” directory is still there, and Dolphin finds it.

I’m guessing that this is because you powered off the computer instead of cleanly shutting down. If you are using “btrfs” you can probably find it in a snapshot somewhere.
