Hello,
Following a reinstall to Leap 15.6 my previously well-behaved KDE desktop displays (intermittently) a very irritating behaviour: every few seconds the focus of the display jumps to the bottom left of the screen and opens (without me touching the mouse) a new window of the application that happens to be at that position on the task manager. Effectively, it is as if it independently right-clicks that application and selects “new” from the menu.
I don’t know if this problem has been experienced by others and I don’t want to report a bug before I am convinced that it is really a bug. But it makes using my desktop difficult.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Thanks,
Abe
Is this a desktop system or a laptop with touchpad?
Did you test with another keyboard and mouse?
It is a desktop.
There is no issue with either keyboard or mouse, but I will try to change the mouse and see if this makes a difference.
Thanks.
Are you using Wayland? If yes, at your next login, choose “Plasma / X11” (usually at bottom left of SDDM login screen). See if the problem occurs.
Another easy troubleshooting step … create a brand new user account, login as that new user, then do whatever daily routines to see if the problem occurs. Be sure to not do a “Switch User”, but log out of your regular user account, then log in as the new user.
Thanks.
I am not using Wayland.
I have already created a new account and restarted the machine to log into it. The problem did recur with the first mouse. I am now using the second mouse. So far the problem has not returned but due to the intermittent nature of the problem, I am still not convinced that it was due to the original mouse. Time will tell.
I think the problem did not arise with the mouse itself, but with my graphical tablet, which is another input device. I developed a habit of putting my phone on it when I was not using it and I think that signals from the phone were interpreted by the tablet as inputs.
I have now stopped putting the phone on the tablet and the problem has gone.
Thanks for the help.
