Fluxbox on 11.3?

Well, to start off, I would like to say that I have been using OpenSUSE on and off for about 2 years or so ( I am constantly switching Linux distros so that I can get used to everything linux related, also enjoy new experiences/environments) and I must say OpenSUSE is by far my favorite distribution to date :). Now I am just wondering if it is possible to install Fluxbox directly from the installation DVD rather than installing it through another environment such as KDE or Gnome. I just want to try fluxbox as I use a netbook (Which KDE 4.4 runs flawlessly on) but I really just want to see if there are any performance enhancements by using Fluxbox. So how exactly would I go about doing this from the DVD? Would I install the minimal desktop and from there install Fluxbox? Any help/procedural steps would be greatly appreciated  And sorry for never really registering on these forums beforehand even though I have been using SUSE for quite some time.

Also if anyone has already installed Fluxbox on their 11.3 machine, how does it work in terms of performance/bugs (if any)

Well, Fluxbox is not offered by the DVD, so there’s no way around installing SuSE with any Desktop environment (or none at all) and then set up the respective repository.

Works fine here and naturally offers a better performance than KDE or any of the “huge” environments. How much better depends on your hardware, of course.

Ok well I installed Fluxbox successfully, however is there a way so that I can have my networks start up upon login? As of right now I have to manually start up my wireless or ethernet connections as they fail to start automatically.

Obviously there’s not such a big fluxbox community in SUSE, but hopefully you can apply some infos from the excellent Arch Wiki (at least was able to do so with openbox). If you’re just after a lighter desktop environment, you can try LXDE which is very well supported since 11.3
