Flashplayer sucks

Since I updated Flashplayer to version 11.2.202.228-12.1 I could not play video’s from YouTube and other sites.
I downgraded Flashplayer to version 11.1.102.63-9.1 and everything works fine now.
Wether it is a bug in Flasplayer itself, or in the Suse-package I have no idea. Have a look guys and gals.

My system: OpenSUSE 12.1 + KDE 4.7.2, nvidia graphics.
Have fun.

I rolled back too

It is a problem with flash and nvidia. No real solution in sight.

And worse: adobe is dropping support for flash in Linux. Only “security”
updates now and then, for a limited time.

It is not only NVIDIA.

After the upgrade to version 11.2.202.228-12.1 (via SUSE online update) flash fails for my two 32 bit computers, one with an ATI graphics card one using the onboard graphics. Downgrade to 11.1.102.63-9.1 made it work again on both.
On my 64bit system with NVIDIA graphics (proprietary NVIDIA driver) flash version 11.2.202.228-12.1 works without any problem.

Those looking for alternatives to Adobe’s flash player might wish to consider trying Lightspark or Gnash:

For Chrome users, Google is developing a replacement plugin called Pepper:

Adobe and Google Partnering for Flash Player on Linux

Hi Deano,

I am thinking of trying lightspark but I guess the latest release was in 2011.

Hi
I have an update sitting here;

There is another user trying to get packman access at the moment to
take over and update :wink:

That was quick. Thanks.:slight_smile:
I’ll wait for the packman update hopefully he’ll get to packman soon.

Thanks Malcolm. :slight_smile:

It’s no use unless there is the browser plugin

And @malcolm
Where is your link pointing?

Or if there isn’t a separate browser plugin, from what I see when trying it. There wasn’t one in Ffox

Try here for testing…

Help! Yesterday, I checked for updates for my computer. There were two. I accepted both. One of them was Flash. Since then, I have not been able to use Flash at all! I can’t watch YouTube or play games programmed in Flash. But, what is worse is that the tax preparation website service I use has some of its tools programmed in Flash! Not having Flash working will impair my ability to e-file my tax returns!

I’ve been having other problems with OpenSuSE recently, and tried re-installing the O/S. The computer seems to be running better, but this did not fix my Flash problem.

I don’t have Nvidea.

What happens when I visit a page that uses Flash? Chromium says “Missing plugin.” Firefox ignores the part of the page that uses Flash. Konqueror crashes.

OpenSuSE 12.1, system is self-built, over 10 years ago.

How do I roll back to an older Flash version?

Hi Folks, changing
EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1
to
EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=0

This files nor the directory (/etc/adobe/) exists on 12.1 x64.

What openSUSE version are you using?
Did you create the file yourself?
