Used to run Gentoo, years ago, getting back on the linux train. Anyways, got a new media pc and am having some troubles getting it to function. I am using ImageWriter, an OCZ Rally 4gb flash drive and have tried both HTTP and BitTorrent downloaded copies of 11.3 with the same md5sum check wrong error. What am I doing wrong? Is it because it thinks it is a CD or am I getting bad copies of the ISO? I am so out of practice I can’t remember anything about installation anymore and am at a loss.
Update, downloaded another copy and md5sum checked both the old and new version, both of which are OK files both to each other and to the openSUSE md5sum, but still neither checks OK at boot.

nczar, if the m5d checksum is correct when you load the file to burn to disk, then the downloaded file is OK. Obviously if the resulting disk does not boot or does not pass a media check after booting, then its the disk burn process that is not working. It could be incompatible or bad media or there could be a burner problem, even as simple as dust inside. I will say that CD/DVD players do go bad and they work just fine until, unannounced, they go bad. If you have a second burner, give it a try, or consider trying to blow the dust out of the one you have or buy a different brand of CD/DVD media, try burning it at a much slower speed or look for a new burner this weekend at a local computer shop, perhaps it is time to upgrade.

jdmc: This isn’t being burnt, I am using ImageWriter to put it onto a flashdrive to make a liveUSB drive.
Well I found an old HD I had that I thought wasn’t good, dropped it in the box, booted and found it was an old linux system, I deleted my old partitions and was able to install it onto the hard drive, awesome, so it’s live now, thanks for the help

Happy to hear of your success there nczar. I see the word Flashdrive in the title now. I already had one foot in the bed as it was late last night when I replied to your post. I need to look closer at everything that is said.
