Flash Videos inside Fiirefox/Opera does not export to pulse

Dear all,

I am running opensuse 12.1 with kde 4.7.2
my sound works correct with pulse (i.e I can see vlc in pulse audio control center and select where to redirect the sound)…

The same, unfortunately, does not happen with flash videos that play inside firefox or opera. It is like these videos do not have sound at all (which is of course wrong for typical youtube videos).

Could you please shed some light what can improve that?

Regards
Alex

This should be in the multimedia furom
Please supply more information.
Are you using digital or anlog audio?

For anyone using PulseAudio, you need to read the following Blog on the subject here: Pulseaudio Basics for openSUSE with pavucontrol - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

You should install the pavucontrol (PulseAudio Volume Control) as suggested and if your computer has more than one detected audio device (like my video card includes audio I don’t use) then use the pavucontrol to disable that unneeded audio device.

Thank You,

To be frank, i can figure out why this situation happens to you. Maybe you can try install the application again or check is there any application crash with this one. Wish you good luck.

Hi there,
I have read the guide and I have only left one audio device enabled (my external usb speakers).

In the pavucontrol, when there is a flash movie playing there is no entry in the playback tab. I assume that flash does not “export” the sound through pulse but through some other engine…

What else might be the problem?

Alex

So here are a couple of other links to look at. For more info on PulseAudio look here: freedesktop.org - Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/User/PerfectSetup

For a bash script for audio testing look to here. It includes doing a complete audio setup dump you could post here for use to see: S.T.A.R.T. - SuSE Terminal Audio Reporting Tool - Version 1.12 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

One would want to make sure your default Multimedia is setup properly with a checkout from here: MMCHECK - Version 2.41 - Check Your Multimedia in 16 Steps - Bash Script File - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

Obviously I don’t know what is wrong, but I would like to offer something I had happen to me when Pulse first came out. I was using built-in sound from Realtek and it worked for system sounds and even movie playback, but no sound from Flash and no sound from the Totem plugin looking at iTunes Movie Trailers. I finally decided to change my sound device and purchased a Creative Add-in Sound card and without doing anything more but making it the default sound device, everything started working. One wonders just who is the blame for such a problem and I don’t know who to point to, but some support in Linux is very hardware specific it would seem. In another case, I got no sound at all until I updated my kernel version to kernel 3.2, up from the default 3.1. For any attempts at kernel updates, take a look at this:

S.A.K.C. - SUSE Automated Kernel Compiler - Version 2.62 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

If you do run into the fix, please let us know what you decided to do.

Thank You,

Am I correct when I speculate that you do not have sound from firefox and opera at all ? Or only you do not have sound from firefox and opera via your USB device?

Can you please provide screen prints of pavucontrol when playing a video with sound thru firefox or opera … in particular prints of: (1) config tab (and show the selections) and advise which selection you have made, (2) output devices tab (ensure you have SHOW all devices selected), (3) playback tab .

With usb device plugged in, please also provide web/url provided of sound hardware/software config from diagnostic script:

/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh

I want to confirm various items and that script output should show what i wish to confirm.
