Flash plugin

Hi
I am new to Suse. I am using ver 11.0 64bit. I have it installed in Virtual box on top of Vista home preumium, 64 bit. Amd 2.2 dual core, 4gb of ram. I have Virtual box set with 25gb and 512 of ram. I have to figure out how to dual boot with Vista. I have a question about install flash player. I am a Cisco student and to be able to veiw materials I need flash player. I downloaded and installed flash-plugin-10.0.22.87-releasei386.rpm. Not sure if this is the correct one. I think it is. When I try to veiw material I get an erorr message saying Flash player has stopped an unsafe operation. ould my problem be from running in Virtual box?

thanks, Doug

If using a 64 bits firefox you need the 64 bits flash player plugin.

What browser are you using and where did you download that rpm file?

Greetings,

Camaleón

I am using Firefox. I downloaded file from Adobe.com. I just looked and they do not say if it is 32 or 64 bit or give an option for either one.

Thanks, Doug

well if you don’t see a 64 bit one 32 will do just fine just download then uzip with arc or something then chmod +x flashplayer-installer then ./flashplayer-installer (or whatever the name of the file is think it’s flashplayer-installer)

oh sorry got ahead of myself that’s the instructions for the tar.gz file

It is here:

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

And some FAQs, here:

http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/faq.html

Standard download page has 32 bits versions, not suitable if you installed a
64 bits firefox.

Remember 64 bits flashplayer is still beta.

Greetings,

Camaleón

I removed the 64 bit version and installed Suse 32 bit version. I downloaded flashplayer and still can noy get my program to run. I gave this setup 1GB of ram. My problem could be trying to run from Virtual box.
Thanks for the help.

Open Firefox and type “about:plugins”. You should see there “Shockwave
Flash”.

I also have an opensuse 11.1 on a VirtualBox running fine flash.

Can’t you see any flash video? I.e., YouTube?

Greetings,

Camaleón

Haven’t tried that. I will give it a try.

Thanks, Doug

I can watch Youtube without any problems. Must be the way the program uses flash. I was able to veiw on an Win XP computer.

Thanks, Doug

You said something about Cisco student material ¿right? Then it can be
possible they use a kind of ActiveX to load the flash, and ActiveX only
works with Internet Explorer.

Greetings,

Camaleón

I do have to click a bar that appears when I open material to allow the program to run. I will try to run from Cisco’s Academy website to see if it works that way and I will post back.
Thanks for your help. Doug

I just tried to view material at Academy connection and I am able to access material with Suse in Virtual Box. Problem must be the way the disk was created.

Thanks, Doug
