Not sure if this is the right forum, please move if not…
Does anyone know what is going on with the Flash plugin? It’s only been a few days since it has been blocked, so maybe an update is in the works. I can’t do much of anything on the Internet without it. For web sites I trust (well, one web site), I enable it as needed, but it worries me a bit. If it matters, I’m using openSuse 13.1 and SeaMonkey browser. I noticed in Firefox that it’s allowed to run, but checking the plugin on that says it has security problems, so apparently it’s not limited to SeaMonkey.
On www.scottsbasslessons.com, I really need a way to play the lesson videos. They recommend the HTML5 player. I don’t see that in Yast, does it exist for openSuse / SeaMonkey? I’ve only read about HTML5 in the past, but was never sure if it was “ready”, no idea where to start. Any suggestions? It would be nice to not have to deal with this Flash fiasco anymore.
All modern browser can use HTML5 nothing for you to do. It is a question of the Website providing the video in that format. and in some cases you need to set it in your preferences for that site. Flash as been a security nightmare for a long long time.
Will uninstalling Flash force the browser to use HTML5? I can’t find any preferences for HTML5 on the web site in question (or on YouTube for that matter). I’m about to try this on a “beater” PC, afraid of mucking up my “good” machine.
Ok, I just figured out how to do it for SeaMonkey - in Addons Manager > Plugins I selected “Never Activate” for the Flash plugin. Now the HTML player works on YouTube. Nice! Now to try it on the other web site.

Yes, there is, but nobody has it yet. It is not an openSUSE issue. They
(Adobe) have to create it.

You could try Chrome.
Hi
Might I suggest you do take the time to read the full thread. The OP
solved the issue by removing flash… plus one to the OP.

Clearly it is an openSUSE issue, and being discussed on opensuse-factory mailing list. It’s currently part of the distro and maintenance is therefore an issue.
Of course you will say I don’t understand your meaning, difference in language, culture etc., However if you post here, it’s up to you to make your meaning clear, is it not.

Ok, but there is nothing that openSUSE or anybody can do to provide an
update till Adobe creates it.

I did read the full thread. What do you think? Of course I did.
That doesn’t alter the validity of my response.
Hi
The OP decided they don’t need flash and removed it, why offer to use
another application with (I’m assuming) another type of flash player
that perpetuates the real issue of using flash.
The more folks that can remove and not use it the better, folks who do
need to use it (like yourself) are in a rock and a hard place

I see that chromium-pepper-flash has been updated on packman. So flash with chromium should now be usable.
I don’t run browsers as root. And I already use the flashblock extension in firefox to block most flash. So it’s a bit annoying that firefox is forcing extra steps.
Why is firefox phoning home anyway (to find out about flash problems)? I thought I turned off all of the appropriate options.
Certainly in the UK, BBC’s iPlayer is used by many, many thousands of people if not millions. It uses Flash. If Mozilla want to **** many of those people away, they are right on course! So for people who need it, the rock will be Windows and the hard place Apple’s IOS, that’s if Google fail them first I guess.

Hi
Maybe you need to look at my get_iplayer package?
A few of the websites I visit have started using jw player instead just
need to have the mpeg4 acc codec (for audio) installed.
No different than people still using XP, old linux releases etc, people
still use flash, for the moment it is available, down the road, who
knows…
Apologies to the OP for the bike sledding the thread…
