You found the correct formula.

I just wrote the following at the shell prompt.

ni@linux-j5q7:~> firefox
ni@linux-j5q7:~>

A copy of Firefox came to the screen. It has sound function.

Dictionary - MSN Encarta
**
I just wrote an English word and click the sound icon.
It gave me the pronounciation. I am very happy.

**

Now it is late here. I must sleep.

I will test more and let you know.
**
Please keep a good watch on this thread.**

Now it is working.

I did nothing. I just tried to get sound. It works.
**
I am very glad.**

I can’t understand why you had so much trouble. Mine worked out of the box so to speak.

But happy to hear you are up and away.

Oh ! really

Yours worked out of the box.

This morning I woke up and started the computer and the first task was to check the sound. I just went to the MSN dictionary website and got the pronounciation of an English word.

I guess hardware makes some difference too. You and I have different hardware. **That is a minor issue when it comes to the sound emission. **

I mean some sound cards are better. I have a rotten sound card when compares to what is available today. I think it is a builtin card.

I changed the NIC card a long time ago because built in card is a rotten one.

I have a rotten graphic card too. As I don’t indulge games it is not necessary have an excellent graphic card.

I guess hardware makes some difference too. You and I have different hardware.

Totally agree.
I didn’t buy my box off the shelf, but built it from individual components. Anyone that can do that too, is going to be able to make things easier - if they choose carefully.

caf

Now I installed even Opera browser. It was with some hiccups.

I managed to instal it. It works fine. Even sound is working.

Glad to see you up and running Gold, welcome to the openSUSE community. We try to help each other.

Thanks Slammer

I will definetly post here if needed.

There is a small problem with sound or rather graphic.

**Only in certain websites, I have this problem.

I will post it soon.**

BBC SPORT | Olympics | Judo | Dumitru crowned Olympic champion

I have a problem with the above.

You will see a photograph of a Romanian athlete.
Below the photograph, I get the following error message:

Cannot play media. Sorry, this media is not available in your territory.

**

What is the problem?**
I live in Sweden. Romania is Europe too.
Even the people in Romania should have the same problem.

it’s the bbc, only for UK
works for me

An Englishman told me he could not watch the BBC World Service in the UK.

I watch BBC World Service. He said it does not exist in the UK.

I can get even BBC Prime.

I don’t have it. I have to pay for each and every channel.

Mostly I watch French and Russian channells.

I have 10 non-Swedish channels.

As I said I have to pay for every channel.

It may be you get all those channells free in the UK.

You got your own domestic BBC version.

I think those websites are designed for British public.

It is my understanding BBC World Service is for the rest of the world.

I wonder whether there is a special BBC version for the USA. It is possible they have a special version for the American public.

Gold, it’s a region locked video, the only way to see it is to go through a proxy server.

> What is the problem?

the BBC web site can tell where you are located by your IP number, which
automatically goes with every browser get/fetch transmission…and, the BBC
apparently doesn’t want to ‘serve’ the media (a film, i guess) to you…

which is their right, since it is paid for by the UK taxpayers–i GUESS if you
lived in the UK it would flow freely to you…freely flow but you would have
already paid for it via the tax system…

I don’t have a proxy server. I don’t run a network today.

This is a single computer. I have a cable connection (not ADSL).

My ISP gave me a cable modem via cable TV network.

I have 24Mbit per second.

I don’t think you have such high speed in the USA.

Once I met Jeff Pulver at a meeting.

He said Sweden is very advanced than the USA when it comes to speed.

It is very simple to find IP address and other details.

I have studied networking.

I pay money to the Cable TV and ISP. They pay to BBC.

**They told me. I have to pay a lot of money to get the Russian channel. I protested to the Cable TV company. They said Russians wanted more money. BBC, CNN, French, German, Spanish charge a reasonable amount of money.

Russians charge almost 6 times more than BBC and the others.

So there are no free services.**

> I pay money to the Cable TV and ISP. They pay to BBC.

they pay the BBC for providing you BBC TV from the satellite, NOT for you to
watch film from the web site that serves only to folks with a UK IP…

see?

One thing you’re right on Gold, I just wish I had that 24MBit speed  But as for a proxy server, there are free proxies on the net, most to get around such restrictions, try doing a Google search for them.

Guys you rock. I have been fighting FLASH for about 2 weeks now and “nspluginwrapper -v -a -i” fixed it. Thanks a lot.

Uh… “the media is not available in your territory” ???

It is possible for websites to detect where you are (in a general
sense)… and obviously they don’t want people from outside their territory
or country to be able to view it.

You have several options:

  1. You could move. Great Britain is a nice place to live.
  2. There are quite likely proxies you could connect through to fake being in
    the UK
  3. You could find another source for that media.

Thanks everybody for the comments.

Our friend lornix wants me to move to the UK.

I will consider moving to the UK.

It is not a tall order because the UK belongs to EU.

My passport allows me to live in any EU country.

I can live and work in the UK.

What is your speed?

Some places in Sweden people get 100Mb.

They told me I would get 100Mb per second next year.

I am not sure whether I will accept their offer.

They will ask more money.

Today I pay about 70 dollars per month to get 24Mbit per second.

In my experience the higher speed are irrelevent if you just use the Internet to look at the news, sending emails, etc.

When I download big files, the high speed is good.

It is rare that I download big files.
