Flash-player & flash-player-kde4 removed after zypper dup!

Thanks for the update.

I guess I expected that to happen, given that flash is now in the packman repo for 13.2 and for Tumbleweed.

So the dropping of flash by opensuse is at most a minor inconvenience.

And, by the way, we have a great community. It’s good to see how quickly flash was picked up by packman.

It’s weird cause it’s not only affecting just VLC player with double window, but also the smplayer as folkpuddle said, so maybe it’s not the player’s fault but something not right in OpenSuse Leap?

I remember seeing this issue on Tumbleweed/KDE but don’t recall, when and it only lasted for a short time. Definitely with VLC, maybe SMPlayer too, but not at the same time. I haven’t seen it on Leap/KDE so far i.e. Beta1 + Packman for SLE 12, but have only just upgraded that to a level beyond RC1 and multimedia is not yet switched to Packman for Leap - possibly later today.

If I see it I will report back.

I just zypper dup’d tumbleweed and chromium-pepper-flash was installed. Firefox 41 has flash 19.0 with libfreshwrapper-flashplayer.so which came from packman tumbleweed essentials. So my experience was no interruption of flash plugin and the same version of flash that comes built in to Google Chrome is now in Firefox and Chromium.

I just noticed Packman repo listed under Community repo list like it had for Tumblweed and 13.2, so I uninstalled VLC and VLC Codecs and removed that Packman repo I added before that was floating around in forums here. Then added the Packman repo from under the Community List and reinstalled VLC and VLC codecs, and the double window issue is still there lol. So something some where still isn’t right. Not sure how, but is there a way to report this double window issue to VLC developers or Packman repo guy or something? It’s not really a show stopper of course, but more of annoyance than anything else for the double window issue, would be nice if it’s handled.

Another thing that’s going on too, is I’ve installed the hard way for nvidia graphic driver for the GeForce 210 card, some sporadic flicking on and off, on and off, on and off of the screen as if it’s not registering the screen immediately after I turn on monitor for few hours after I sleep. Shows the graphic card driver is installed in Kinfo Center, but still some times goes on, off, on, off, on, off, back on and stays on/registered. It didn’t do this before on an older development build /ISO of Leap. I grabbed the driver for the 210 though, not G210, not sure if that makes difference.

Kind of debating going back to 13.2, Tumbleweed, or Kubuntu Wily if all these “issues” remain, would be a shame though, cause I’m loving Leap more than 13.2, Tumbleweed and Kubuntu Wily… Lol

kaffeine works fine for me, you do need xinelib2 from packman for propitiatory codecs but no double window for kaffeine.
ps I think there is a kaffeine beta 1.3 that uses libvlc instead of libxine2
it’s in wolfy’s repo but I am weary of installing them as wolfy’s packages will go in /opt/kf5 not in /usr

or am I wrong?

Not quite.
It’s the latest 1.3.1 (no beta), but yes it uses libvlc instead of libxine2.

In this case, you are wrong indeed…
It installs to /usr/.

Kaffeine hasn’t been ported to KF5 yet. And this repo is a branch from the standard KDE:Extra repo (without any tricks from me to install to another location), which normally still only contains the KDE4 versions of applications, for 13.2 at least. For Leap it will be changed, but most applications have not been released as KF5 versions yet anyway.

That said, this mentioned package only exists because I wanted to try out the “new” Kaffeine that uses libvlc, polish up the package, and submit it back to KDE:Extra and the distribution.

Unfortunately, I’m not satisfied really, it tends to use 50% of my CPU time when watching television, while both VLC and xine “idle” at ~10%.
That’s why I haven’t submitted it yet, and am not really keen to do at the moment.

cool then I’ll upgrade to your build.

Having added Packman repos for …/openSUSE_Leap_42.1/… and switching VLC packages, plus installing vlc-codecs (I never did for Beta1), I now get video playback in a new additional window. VLC has a preference setting “integrate video in interface” (Simple) set by default that seems to have no effect either way.

BTW this is not exactly the same issue I mentioned wrt VLC on Tumbleweed - there it looked like a tiled or split window. Either way it was fixed quickly but not by me.

SMPlayer doesn’t have the issue here on 42.1 upgraded to final.
