Hi,
My Flash Player seems to block all other programs from outputting any sound. When other programs play sound, flash videos don’t play sound or – in case of youtube – don’t even run and show an error message instead. The video begins to load several times (but only the first second of the video) before showing the error.
I am afraid that this has something to do with Pulseaudio and Alsa and I have been playing around with settings and I have re-installed both of them several times but that didn’t fix the problem. The Problem exists in Firefox and Chromium (Pepper-Flash).
What exactly is your “Flash player”?? What exactly is the error message.
If a program attaches itself direct to the /dev file it will block all other sound application from using that device.
I am using the official Flash Player from Adobe’s website. 11.2. I just re-installed it from the tar.gz
The error message displayed by Youtube was “An error has occurred. Please click here for further information.” The link leads to a few abandoned posts in their forum. (This message is no longer displayed. Instead I get uncontrollable sound in Firefox.)
The current situation on my machine is the following:
Flash in Chromium (Pepper-Flash) works as expected. Its sound can be controlled by Kmix via Pulseaudio.
Re-installing Adobe Flash in Firefox restored audio; however, this sound is always at max level and cannot be controlled (including mute) from Kmix.
Disabling Pulseaudio solves this issue but renders Skype disfunctional.
Why not use the flash from the repositories?? This may be the problem
I had no sound with the flash player from the repositories; that is why I installed it by hand.
It seems that browsing is only seemless with chromium.
There is also another advantage to using pepper flash. Fullscreen can be exited with escape. In Firefox with adobe flash this only works once per video instance.
I don’t see those problems here.
