I try to restore multi boot option after reinstalling my XP
But when I want to reinstall /update my suse, I get an error message:
root partition in etc/fstab has an invalid root device
It currently mounted as /dev/sda7 but listed as /dev/sda8
See this article: SDB:SDB - openSUSE
I’ve try to open that page but not available and do some search but can’t find the same problem
anyone has an idea how to fix this?
(btw, I’m a newbie :shame:)
Thanks in advance
I can’t edit my last post ten minutes already elapsed (too bad)
Are you trying to reinstall grub and suse wouldn’t let you install it again?
Have you altered your partitioning scheme or did you add a new drive when you reinstalled xp?
Please post some changes that you’ve made prior to the re installation so someone can analyzed it properly and might give you a good advise.
The file fstab contains partitioning information. Before you reinstalled xp the root partition was sda8, the fourth logical partition in the extended partition. After the reinstalled xp the root partition is now sda7, the third logical partition in the extended partition. So during the upgrade you reduced the number of partitions after the extended partition by one. Definitely that will upset Suse.
So the question is: would it be correct that the partitioning was changed, in particular reducing the number of logicals after the extended?
I believe I didn’t do anything that could alter my hdd partition
I was just format windows partition and reinstall it
that’s it
after that, I want to reinstall the grub but suse come up with that error message
I’ve check using fdisk -l and my partition still the same
