This is not strictly an openSUSE problem, but rather a problem with something vmware-tools does to an 11.2 KDE virtual machine. When you expand the window of such a virtual machine, the menu font in applications like openOffice write and Amarok becomes annoyingly large. I only get this in a KDE vm and only on Vmware Fusion (not VirtualBox), and only when the default 1024x768 window is expanded. The reason that I’m posting the question here (and not just in Vmware forums) is that I believe the answer has to do with changing the way the monitor size or the font dpi is specified. Problem is that I don’t know enough about KDE to know what configuration file to do that in. Apparently there is no xorg.conf file, so in what file is this configuration information found in openSUSE 11.2 KDE?
From the menu click under the Favorites tab, chose ‘Configure Desktop’. From the Look & Feel section, choose ‘Appearance’. Choose the Font settings. Change ‘Force fonts DPI’ to 96 (or 120). This will help in VMware. Cheers!
Thanks very much evans1050; that solved the problem! I found another one, that network manager doesn’t work after reviving a saved state, but the solution to that for now appears to be to use the “Traditional Method with ifup” instead of NetworkManager. At least this seems to be working. Hopefully there will be a fix soon for NetworkManager or Vmware tools.
Thank you very much! This fixed the problem for me as well.
