Dear all,
I am having a slight problem connecting to my (and other wifi spots).
In my home I was connecting through having Yast set to manually configure my ip address so to coonnect to my home spot.
As now I am on vacation, I tried to set my wireless interface to work through knetworkmanager. The problem is that this package is not any more installed and thus this does not work any more (and I do not have internet access to download it).
I have tried to configure my laptop to connect to other wifi hotspot but it seems that my card (wlan0) does not take any ipaddress.
Could you please provide me some guidance how I can connect by using some cli commands to a wireless network.
The trick would be to configure also my dns (resolv.conf) and my default route (route -n). Is it possible to issue some cli command for fixing these three
a. configurin my ip address
b. my dns server
c. my gateway.
I knopw all the details for the wireless hotspot.
I have also tried the /etc/init.d/network restart but I am getthing the
redirecting to cli text, which I do not know what it means (in the old days I was getting the green or red lovely messages)
I would like to thank you in advance for your help
So it is kind of unusual to actually uninstall networkmanager. To see for sure your present setup, you can go to YaST / Network Devices / Network Settings and see if you are setup to use Traditional method using ifup. If so, here are a couple of message threads on the subject:
