Fisrt update in openSuSE 12.3 changes almost all package from x86_64 to i586

Hello everybody:

I´m installing a fresh openSuSE 12.3 in a HP Compaq Pro 6300 with a Xeon E3/1200 v2 with 4 cores.
It has 4G of RAM and a the video controller is the one that is integrated in the motherboard (in Windows it appear as Intel HD Graphics).

It installs without any problem but when I try to update the system via Yast2 Online Update it tries to update the openSuSE-2013-609-1.noarch package and it gives a conflict with the libsolv-tools-x86_64 package.
If I say ok to resolv the conflict, the next step is to change almost all the packages in the system to the i586 arquitecture.
If I say no it stops from updating the system.
So it seems or either I can have an non updated system or I can have a i586 system but not a x86_64 updated system.

Has anybody found this problem before?
Any idea to make it work?
I´m only using the openSuSE repositories and no other software yet.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Best:

Ruth

P.D. I´m trying to attch the image but it´s to big.

-=WELCOME=- new poster!! if you are also new to Linux and don’t know
how to do the following yet, then just ask!!

please show us the terminal output and input, as well as the
beginning prompt and exit prompt, from

uname -a
lsb_release -sircd

copy/paste the in/output back to this thread using the instructions
here: http://goo.gl/i3wnr

note: what i asked for will answer my question: Which kernel is
installed, 64 or 32?

if it is 64, then i have to also wonder what is going on…well,
there are some programs which are not 64 bit and therefore they
must have the 32 bit libs…

hmmmm…i think if it were my machine (that is: this is my opinion,
you may find others you like more, or less…it is up to you, but
read the caveat in my sig) i would not let it update that
2013-609-1.noarch until i knew more, it just seems wrong…and, some
others have reported problems after doing it, see:

it is usually best to not attach photos or long long computer output
to post here, instead do that by posting to
http://susepaste.org/ and then return to this thread the
URL created by so doing…

when/if you reply please tell us which desktop environment you chose
to install/use…

HTH, thank you.

I have seen this before. It comes from a dependency conflict in which you must resolve. Picking the wrong option results in an architecture change. It is possible to resolve it. It’s just time consuming.

Can you show in addition to the info already requested the output from

zypper se -s libsolv-tools

to see what version is installed and which are available from where on
your system?

There is no “OK”. There are two or three options, you have to choose
one, then select “OK”. Which option did you choose?

Ie, the default option may not be the right one.
