First try of 11.1 Beta3

Hello,

I think this is my first post. Just playing around with 11.1b3. I just wanted to give an overview whats not working properly.

I am using a T41.

Issues

  • WLAN (Atheros)
I can see the WLANs, but cannot connect

  • Kitchensync from KDE4
    could not find the packages

  • Eclipse
    Software update is not possible

  • KMail
    Lot’s of crashes

  • 3D (Radeon 9000)

  • playing Music (Amarok)

Working well

  • Terratec Cinergy DT USB XS (DVB-T Receiver)
    (Kaffeine)
  • playing Videos & Music (Kaffeine)

The Terratec thing is working out-of-the-box?
If this is true, there is no reson left why i should use Windows (except games)!
Another great iomprovement is that the ASUS Xonar DX soundcard is now working out-of-the-box!

There is but one thing to do. You have to copy the firmware into /lib/firmware.

I’ve been using beta 3 for about a week now, as of yet I have had no crashes with Amarok or Kmail.

If you’re using NetworkManager to connect, try ifup. I couldn’t connect with NetworkManager, but ifup works fine.

to update eclipse use

kdesu eclipse

Regular user doesn’t have permissions to the dir to update eclipse and install plugins.

Hello!

I tried to run Eclipse Ganymede and have the same problem:
“Unable to launch the update UI. This installation has not been configured properly for Software Updates.”

And doing the same thing (Help → SW updates…) from root gives the same result.

It seems to be a configuration problem for this eclipse installation. Anybody else has this problem?

Hello,

the bug is still present in the final version.
Is there any help?

I have a same problem. I found this workaround for eclipse updates on Gentoo forums and it seams to work well.

Martin

Same problem here and that does indeed fix it. For those are who are wondering how to get it working, start up eclipse and go to:
Window > Preferences > General > Capabilities
Enable “Classic Update”, Apply… and you’re done.

[EDIT]:
While we’re on the topic, 3.4 is on http://packages.opensuse-community.org/ which is newer than the 3.3 in the default repositories.
