Hi people,
Well, this is the first time I see this on suse tumbleweed xorg using wayland (with x11 is a common issue).
i am not sure if this is because of the ultimate upgrade, i like to watch full screen youtube videos, when i select full screen there are a lot of screen flickering in the edges of the screen, i dont remember it happened before, this has to be some upgrade issue. I run zypper dup everyday, i love to have the latest versions of everything installed, that is the reason i run a rolling release in the first place. i do not agree with some administrators here who argue that there is no need to update a system that is perfectly working, if you run the space station control computer center (a thing suse’s market people do love to sell you, is what top scientists run woldwide they says) of couse you wont risk the project due to a silly mistake. in my case the only thing that will break is my pride of being a tech guy. >:)
Ok, lest get back to my issue, i have not changed anything, just did zypper dup, i have not watched videos until today, on weekend i have some spare time so i fired youtube i found this flickering issue, that i did not have last weekend, I use default login option in gdm and i login to a wayland session, i did check that, i have the env variabled set.
there is not any error in systemd journal, what can i do, rollback to a week old snapshot? I am not a 3d designer so is not a big deal, my concern is if I were a professional designer i would be in big troubles.
Yes, you could try that for comparative purposes.
Are you using Gnome with Wayland? Graphics hardware?
hi deano, i run tumbleweed with gnome as DE.
I have an hp 15 with integrated i915 video card.
i did not put those details because with the same hardware last week i had zero issues in youtube full screen videos, so is not an hardware problem.
i can restore a week old snapshot, the important thing is: what is the root cause of the flickering? should it will happen again in a week, i dont want to keep restoring a snapshot every week, is openQA working at all? If so ,is not smart at all as opensuse tell us it is, it did not cath and hold a basic thing like this.
Okay. Wayland or Xorg in use?
echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

Noone suggested that it is, but always good to know what we’re dealing with here. We’re not over your shoulder to look for ourselves.

Don’t know yet. It could be due to a regression. That’s why you make the effort to roll back and test. A bug report may be needed depending on your finding.

This kind of comment doesn’t help progress or resolve an issue. TW as a fast-rolling release distro. It won’t suit all users. The kind of issue you report may only affect a few (eg specific graphics hardware), otherwise we’d expect to see many similar reports.
BTW, when you’re posting in the help forums, please stay on topic and try to stick with definitive, relevant information. We have the soapbox forum for ranting.
