This problem, first noticed 6 months ago, doesn’t appear to have been fixed.
I installed tumbleweed from 6/26/18 on an AMD bsistol ridge notebook. Install completed, even with the graphical installer (even sets correct resolution of display), then, on first reboot, hangs when initializing amdgpu frame buffer. It is repeatable and consistent. Notebook is HP probook 455 G4.
For reference, both Kubuntu 18.04 and pclinuxOS of 6/18 install and work and both use amdgpu driver.
please delete this post- I cannot. I think the cause of the problem is that I unselected “install recommended packages” and that failed to install critically required packages such as kernel firmware, X drivers etc- I guess they are now recommended. The reason for such selection is that lot of crud gets installed - esp a “lang” package for every package installed and that used to work in the past.
Anyway, I am going with another distro at least for now.
