firewall enabled (still able to download using transmission)

Dear opensuse peeps,
On my openuse 12.1 system I have enabled the firewall 9and have put my nic in the external zone) although I am behind two appliances:

  1. a modem with nat router where the firewall is enabled to block all incoming connections
  2. and a nat router where the firewall is disabled

If I download a torrent file and transmission starts, to my disbelief…it manages to download the files although I thought my firewall would be able to block it.

Can somebody clarify what is going on and if I have configured the suse firewall correctly?

For your modem this is not an incoming connection, but an outgoing.

Same for your openSUSE firewall. I guess yoy are also able to go to these forums from that system, likewise outgoing connection and thus the incomig packets are for an “established session”.
