Thanks, had already found solution
Only a new profile is necessary…
Is there a better solution?
For preserve bookmarks, as example.
At this time, no,
But creating a new profile will not delete the old one.
Bugreport:
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1174184
For Leap 15.1: install Firefox Beta 77.99 (= 78.0b9), open it, close it, then update to FF 78.0.2.
And it works.
FF 77.99 available for Leap 15.1 and TW.
For Leap 15.2: download rpm packages, then install them (MozillaFirefox and MozillaFirefox-translations-common).
Another way: copy user profile to Windows machine (or load Windows, may work as virtual machine), run new enough Firefox with this profile, close FF, copy updated profile to openSUSE.
I found it here:
https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla:/beta/openSUSE_Leap_15.1/
and it works. (this method was much faster than via windows)
Thank You!
Hi prostetnik42!
Just tried with Tumbleweed (found packages here: https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla:/beta/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/x86_64/ ) and it did NOT work
Anybody else found a fix for Tumbleweed?
Cris
I did so, I renamed .mozilla to .mozilla1> I started Firefox and created a new folder> I went to the Firefox menu> Help> Troubleshooting> at that point I deleted the .mozilla folder that had been created, and what I had renamed in .mozilla1 I renamed it again in .mozilla> at this point I clicked on restore Firefox and Firefox started again with bookmarks and passwords as before, now it works perfectly
FYI, the latest comment in the bug report states:
Hi, just starting in safe mode (command line “firefox --safe-mode”) and close worked for me. No need to reset anything.
No idea if that works in general, but maybe it will help somebody.
Also, deleting the file “addonStartup.json.lz4” in the profile folder should fix the problem according to the bug report.
And somebody even posted a small script in the bug report that should “repair” the existing “addonStartup.json.lz4”:
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1174184#c21
I just did a test, and with
firefox -safe-mode
Fire fox seems to work fine. I am on tumbleweed though, but getting the exact same error.
After closing and starting FF the normal way, I again had that error.
All passwords and bookmarks still there and working in safe mode.
Will now try what was suggested about deleting addonStartup.json.lz4, and report back.
Edit:
Deleting that file solved my problem. Thank you.
Fwiw: I had the same problem with 15.2, started safe mode, went to about:config, searched for
browser.uitour.enabled
set it to “false” and on next startup the browser worked with the old profile…
Thank you wolfi323, it works wonderfull. I got back all my extensions and my bookmarks.
Running openSUSE Tumbleweed 20200717 and Firefox 78.0.2.
