I am three days into Suse 11.1. I want to play streaming videos for instance Yahoo movie trailers, wmv, utube etc.
So far nothing works. When I check FF plugins they all say disabled and are the following/ Dix Web Player/Open SC/Quicktime 7.24.2/VLC/Windows Media Player. If I click enable they do not work either. I also added the usual Gstreamers. When I play the trailer Yahoo says I need Adobe Flash, but when I try and install it is says it is already installed
I suppose there is a simpler way to do this but I do not know how.
If Suse 11.1 has a to do list some where I would like to read it. Install went very nice, but it is what to do after word to get a more complete system that I would like. What to do now?
My mind is like mush right now. I had read the thread. How do I find Packman? Sorry I am new here. Ok in the wiki it says open Yast find installation source in the right pane. I do not see it.
VLC is not in my software manager.
Read this. It will help you add repositories:
Repository Management - openSUSE Forums
Post back if you really can’t understand and I’ll walk you thru it
Since the last post and thank you for your reply: I un installed my own installs/installed gnome codes/ as mentioned in a preious post in this thread. Installed VLC as well. However I still have no yahoo trailer or other video capability. Are the plugins as in tools/addons/plugins/ supposed to be disabled or enabled? It does not seem to matter as far as I can tell. Open SC signer plug in/Quicktime .7.2.0/Totem WebBrowser 2.24.2/VLC plugin 0.9.9a/VLC Multiple Plugin/compatableTotem 2.24.2/Window Media Player Plugin Compatable 2.24.2/ These are the FF plugins as shown. My guess is and it is only a beginners guess that the new install repositories are fine and that all I need is there.FF says I need adobe flash player, yet Adobe Flash is installed/Pullin-flash player/swfdec freeflash/swfdec-devel/swdec-doc are also installed.
I like SUSE your help is appreciated!

added sun java as well after previous post/ still no change in ff problem.
First Open a terminal and become su
Now do:
zypper in libdvdcss
If it’s already installed - fine.
Now
Change as I show here:
1 | Libdvdcss repository | Libdvdcss repository |** No | No ** | 99 | rpm-md | http://suse.linuxin.dk/repo/11.1/ |

You make all these changes in Yast software Repositories, see my guide posted earlier.
Now open a terminal again and become su: and do,
zypper ref
then
zypper up
Once that is done, open Yast software Management and filter by Repositories and select Packman.
From Packages menu at the top, look for the drop down to ‘Update all in this list Unconditionally’
Allow any dependency error to change vendor to Packman.
Libdvdcss is installed. When I go to yast/software repositories/
the first line highlighted is Libdvdcss, and the others follow down the list. I assume you want me to edit that command line? When I press edit it says server and directory with options to edit parts of the url or complete url adn various protocols, I do not see the command line to edit? Sorry I feel stupid for asking you this. Do I delete the Libdvdcss line and paste in another? Confused.
Bottom line is I do not know how to make the changes using Yast software Repositories. I am not seeing the way.
Go here and download and watch the second video:
carl4926 - Adding Repo in Yast
download them both if you like, only a few MB.
I am lucky I have no hair to pull out. I am still not quite there. I will watch the videos some more and try and get this. It would seem easier to me to have it done in terminal. Thanks for your help. I could easily return to Ubuntu, but I want to learn this system. Please stay with me. Life is great in the Linux world.
Become su in a terminal and do:
zypper mr -d 1
zypper mr -d 3
zypper mr -d 6
zypper mr -r -p 20 repo-update
Now post back the repo details again:
zypper lr --details

rosswmcgee@linux-6y9y:~>
Now open a terminal and become su and do:
zypper ref
zypper up
OK all done please and thank you! What is next?
su terminal
zypper in vlc-mozillaplugin
Then in FFox. Adjust the plugin settings as described/shown here by Ian:
opensuse 11.1 wmv in firefox - openSUSE Forums
Loading repository data…
Reading installed packages…
‘vlc-mozillaplugin’ is already installed.
Resolving package dependencies…
Nothing to do.
