Firefox on openSUSE Leap 15.3

Is there an explanation for why there is no official Firefox package available for openSUSE Leap 15.3? I seem to be stuck with version 78. The newest version is 92!

Leap runs with the Extended Support Release version, which is the normal way for Leap releases, bug and security fixes etc. Unless there is a security need that can’t be backported.

Extended Support Release (ESR): receives major updates on average every 42 weeks with minor updates such as crash fixes, security fixes and policy updates as needed, but at least every four weeks.

In addition to different update cycles, the ESR currently has access to additional policies that are not available on rapid release.

I seem to be “stuck” with 78.13.0esr, which is the latest release in the esr series. And it comes from the repos, so it looks official to me.

Yes, yesterday a site that I was visiting told me that “firefox” was out of date. I ignored it, because they were wrong.

Thanks for your reply, Malcolm. But there is NO package of any version available for 15.3 on software.opensuse.org. Just for 15.2 and Tumbleweed, neither of which can be installed on 15.3.

I’ve been having the same problem. My “solution” is to then use Chromium, but I would prefer to be able to use firefox.

That’s where I got it from. A couple of web-sites I’ve visited lately have complained that this version is out of date. I was hoping that a newer version was available. Mozilla.org says the latest esr version is 91.1.0. Maybe I’ll just have to wait for it to appear in the repository …

Yes, the German government is also guilty of this behaviour – I’m considering submitting a citizen’s complaint to help them change their views of the world …

If you really want the latest firefox and thunderbird - you can add the mozilla repo to your repo list - this is what my entry looks like. You do get all the bugs that have not been worked out yet.

I disabled my mozilla repo (enabled=0) to get the ERS version which is stable.

Sorry! I copied the URL from a previous post which had “$releasever” in it instead of “15.3”. The repo is there.
