Firefox not starting

Yesterday I upgraded my Tumbleweed computer (i586, KDE) to version 20160718. Since that upgrade Firefox does not start any more and each time reports a crash before opening. From commandline I get this:

uli@linux-top:~> firefox

(firefox:7215): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme directory base/ of theme oxygen has no size field

ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 7260
ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child
ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal...
uli@linux-top:~>

I reinstalled with the same result. How do I get Firefox back? Any Help is appreciated.

There appears to be a problem with the 32 bit FF. Don’t know when it will be resolved. Try another browser

I think keellambert is referring to this post

https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/518633-updating-kernel-update-kills-Firefox?p=2783811#post2783811

Thank you, deano_ferrari, this link works now in which keellambert is suggesting to download the tar.bz2 Firefox from the mozilla web site. But I thought if it is not in the rpm database then it will not update if there is a newer version available. If this problem (if it is related to gcc6 or the kernel-default-4.6.2-1) then I presume downgrading to the previous version of Firefox won’t help. It looks like that with Tumbleweed too the i586 computers are no longer important and I have to replace that trusty old (only approx 11 year old) laptop at some stage.

hi Uli

just a couple of points

installing firefox from the Mozilla website will not affect the installation or
updating of the openSUSE version providing it is not installed to
/usr/lib/firefox, hence no updates will be missed during the normal updating
process

if an update from openSUSE is found that works, the one from Mozilla can be
deleted

the Tumbleweed 32bit install is on a 10 year old Toshiba SM60 and most things
work ok or their alternatives do, eg tvtime doesn’t but qv4l2 has similar
capabilities, its just a question of looking around

have fun

It won’t be found unless someone files bug report.
