Running Tumbleweed with KDE Desktop on laptop. Yesterday there was a massive automatic update with over 1800 files updated. It seems these included Firefox and the addons I have, which include NoScript. These no longer work as before.
Previously NoScript would show a small options box if any scripts were being blocked and if clicked a list of blocked scripts was shown together with an option to allow for this session or permanently allow.
OpenSUSE forum was one site for example where a script had to be allowed (microfocus?) in order to log in.
Now there is no option box or any way I can see to allow either permanently or temporarily.
My understanding is that NoScript 10.x is a complete rewrite for the new WebExtension interface, and is currently missing much of what was in the older version.
Yes, the move to Firefox 57 did break XUL and many Firefox extensions were still using that. Mozilla did announce the would ditch XUL in 2015 so it should not be a surprise but that is not how things work.
Maybe good time to try another Firefox Extension that work instead of NoScript, for example uBlock Origin (simpler) and uMatrix (more into details), you can use them also in parallel.
I currently ran across this browser it’s developed by the same people that did PaleMoon https://www.basilisk-browser.org/
it’s a Firefox 5x fork that does not use rust or electrolysis
it supports all non webext Firefox extensions
if you don’t have a 4+ core cpu or need the old xul/xpcom stile addons it’s a good choice for a Firefox replacement or a secondary browser
there is no rpm file but there is a x64bit Linux tarball
Hi and many thanks for the info. Since posting I have done some reading and found out a bit more about what is going on. Sadly that does not make life any better or give me any comfort. For example I learned that the updating of addons to suit the new firefix was not reliable and that I should uninstall and re-install the addons I wanted. I then found that some were not (yet?) available and those that were are as intrusive and seek as many permissions to access my machine as the scripts and cookies I am trying to avoid. Not the place for a rant but must start looking for something strong and simple. Trouble is the websites do not work without all these unsought and unannounced “extras” and that includes banking sites!!!

Hi,
I am using Leap 42.2 currently as my main OS and am fortunate in not
facing the issues with addons such as NoScript that FFox 57 is throwing
up at long-standing users. I have had a play with FF 57 on an Ubuntu
Mate 17.10 install (and briefly on Win 7) and discovered that I had to
uninstall NoScript completely and look for alternatives. I found the
following couple simple-to-use JavaScript block and unblock addons that
work well for me: YestScript2 and NJS (plus I also installed Adblock Plus).
