Can anyone confirm that the work-around to make Ffx 3.x add-ons compatible with Ffx 4 in windows also works in SuSE?

it does. you have to use the “Add-on Compatibility Reporter” extension
from
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/?src=api
, which allows you to enable extensions / add-ons that haven’t been tested
for FF4 yet.
