I have installed the new version of Firefox but when I start it the bouncing icon carries on bouncing for a few minutes - rather than stopping when Firefox has loaded.
Is there a simple fix - as it is driving me mad! Thanks

I have the same problem. I am using Firefox 3.5 on opensuse 11.1 kde 4.2.4
try to update it via Yast once again, i did this way & dont have any problem with firefox now!
Still does the same thing after a reboot or a restart of the computer.
Go to Configure Desktop - Desktop - Launch Feedback
Change Busy Cursor to 5 secs
Temp work around:)

I had to disable “enable launch feedback” from kde menu editor for firefox
entry.

Thanks for that - just the ticket.
I had tried ‘disable launch feedback’ for Firefox but that didn’t work for me but the Desktop settings trick (changing to 2 seconds) sorted out the problem.
Thanks this worked.

Ouch! O:-)
I am using that trick under opensuse 10.3 and kde 3.5.9, maybe on kde4
differs a bit.

Just out of curiosity… someone knows why is this happening with firefox
3.5 release? :-?

O.k. It seems it’s an upstream (firefox) bug:
Bug 416053 - KDE/Gnome startup notification not disappearing when app
window is up

I have been having the same probelm here. Glad to hear im not the only one. Ill try the work around for now until they fix it.
Further reading shows that the reason for it is because this version of firefox was missing something when compiled.
Not surprised by that, thought it was a bug. I mentioned the bouncer a while ago in a post on 11.2 milestone (Pre-release forum), but as only testing, it didn’t bother me much.
I think most have just:
Change Busy Cursor to 5 secs
Yes, I read your earlier post. IIRC on 11.2, bouncing cursor didn’t stop me using it while the bouncing continued. No real delay just annoying. I don’t have the bouncing on 11.1 and not desparate for 3.5 unless it’s a security issue.
I also have been having the same problem with Firefox 3.5 and OpenSuse 11.0
I am also glad to know it is not something wrong with my system, but rather a bug that will hopefully be fixed for all of us.
What I have done for my firefox 3.5 icon link on my desktop, is “right click” on the icon, click “Properties tab”, click “Application tab”, click “Advanced Options tab”, and UNCLICK “Enable Launch Feedback”.
Hopefully they will fix this soon.

Same problem!
It’s working, but annoying. I thought I messed up with packages (which
after all is unlikely unless you ignore flashy warnings, if you can), so
I just downgraded to the bundled version, and problem solved.
Thanks to bring it up (so I know its not my fault!)
Ok, I need to follow-up, and I did. I came back, thinking more knowledge, more complaints, would have prompted action to fix this bug (?) or issue. It is complicated to follow, perhaps.
The issue: There are many different versions of opensuse, but looking at the versions that are talking about this bug, and the overall issue, I thought maybe we would have solved this.
What is causing the bouncing cursor when we all switch from 3.0.x to 3.5.x ?? Please solve, not quick-fix (or quick patch).
PLEASE SOLVE THIS BUG (?) Bouncing cursor issue!!!
I am meek and a geek, I seek
PS - While we are on FIRFOX and issues, let’s talk about sorting the bookmarks. Not only in the bookmark menu, but afterwards, when you are back at the main screen, and click Bookmarks, and they are NOT sorted. Grrr.
I need an icecream…then I need some facts, then I need some code, then I need some time.
