Software will never get updated in openSUSE(from official repos). But
you will receive security patches for the installed versions.

In order to get newer versions of software you need additional repos

You may optionally to install from :-

http://software.opensuse.org/package/MozillaFirefox

GNOME 3.10.1
openSUSE 13.1 (Bottle) (x86_64) 64-bit
Kernel Linux 3.11.6-4-desktop
Where are my penguins :- https://features.opensuse.org/316767

But there seems to be a problem with newer version

Thanks for the info, so I could wait a long time for an ´auto-upgrade´…
but still I didn´t get it upgrading firefox, I tried 2 ways:
1)

I installed ff from the link above, the installations process seemed to work fine but opening firefox I realized that the old 25.0 version is still there and not the new one.

  1. I added this to the repositories:
****http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_13.1/ but there are no firefox updates. also in Yast´s software manager I didn´t find any package with the new firefox.

What do I do wrong???
what kind of browser do you use, I guess no firefox (?)…

That’s not true for Firefox and certain other packages.
Firefox 26 will be delivered as update through the official update repos just like all the versions before, because it would be too much work to backport all the security fixes.

It just takes a while to go through the Maintenance Process, so be patient. V26 is already in the update-test repo, so it should be a few days at most until you’ll get it.
You can remove that additional repo again because you don’t need it.

If you really can’t wait, here’s the URL of the update-test repo:
http://download.opensuse.org/update/13.1-test/
But I wouldn’t recommend to add it to your system. This is the place where the official updates are tested first, so there could be problems.

This has changed ages ago for Firefox. And lately also for KDE. These updates come through the Update repo. F.e. KDE users should have KDE 4.11.3 now, instead of the stock 4.11.2. Admitted, it usually takes a bit longer than when using additional repos.
Re. Firefox 26:
Start Yast - Software - Repositories, click Add, tick Community repos, check the Buildservice-Mozilla repo, trust key when prompted for.
Next Yast - Software - Softwaremanager, View -> repositories, tick the Mozilla repo, on the top right, click “Switch system packages”. Accept, let the install run, and you’re having FF26.

Alles klar, that´s good to know! so i´ll wait…

Or, if you don’t want to switch all packages to the versions from that repo, just select the corresponding package and click on “Versions” in the bottom-right. You can select the specific version you want to install there.

Or enable “Allow Vendor Change” in the “Options” menu to see available updates from all repos, not just the one where a package is from.

Thanks for the help. And when I understand it right there is no need (security issues) , to upgrade firefox now than it would be soon updated through the kde update repo?

Nope, not through the KDE repo, but through the general Update repo, i.e. http://download.opensuse.org/update/13.1/

Got tired of waiting long ago, way before the rapid release cycle started. But usually openSUSE updates about a week after Mozilla releases.

In stead, I use Firefox and Thunderbird downloaded directly from Mozilla and installed manually.

I’m patient. I can wait a week.

Hey guys, I didn’t wanted to create new thread, so I’m asking here.

Am I the only one whos firefox 26 is just broken beyond repair? It closes itself without crash warning then visiting pages (for example humble bundle page) and hangs all the time. It is unusable and forced to go back using chrome. So is it just me, or someone else have similar problems and is there a fix?

Are you using the proprietary nvidia driver by chance? There is a known problem in at least 331.20 that causes problems with Firefox and other programs:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=858421
If that’s the case you should upgrade to the latest 331.38 version, there it should be fixed. Unfortunately it’s not in the nvidia repo yet, but should be there soon I hope.

Try running Firefox with the option “-safemode”. Does it have problems then as well?

Thanks man, you are totally right, -safemode works beautifly. I guess it’s now just waiting for a driver realese, cause I don’t want to broke my suse install by upgrading drivers myself :\

After posting this, I went to add nvidia repo and new driver is out today, so I installed it and looks like firefox is working again without crashes. Thank you again man, I’m back to using my favorite browser :shame:
