Firefox 10?

Hi everyone.

Is Firefox 10 going to be added to openSUSE 12.1 as an update or should I add the Mozilla repository? I kinda shied from doing that as I didn’t want to have too many extra repositories and end up with a lot of conflicts, but if it’s the only way to get FF10 then I’ll do it. Thanks all.

There was a problem with the kde integration on v.10 so that might be why it’s not made updates yet.

The Mozilla repo is mostly OK/safe. But I rolled back from it because of the kde issue.

Thanks for your reply.

I’m using Gnome 3, but I’ll hang on till it turns up in the normal channel rather than add another repo.

Cheers again.

i’m running FF10 (on 11.4) and as far as i can see the only thing that
changed was the version number!

so, no need to get in a big rush to change!!

At this very moment I see it in the 11.4 Update repo. Thus it is very likely that the same is the case in the 12.1 Update repo./
Thus doing YaST ? Software > Online update must offer it for installation.

no, i don’t think FF10 has not yet been released for 12.1

it was released some days ago for 11.4, but there is a hold up for
12.1…Carl posted about the hang up, but i can’t find it just now…

That shows again that it is better to simply wait until it is offered officialy then running around in stress crying: “where is the newest version, it is out now for ten minutes and I can’t find it”. >:)

And to make it worse, those still on 11.4 do have it! rotfl!

Well, I wasn’t stressing or crying. I did ask politely. It’s been out a week and I wondered what had happened. I thought the openSUSE forums might be the best place to ask, as Googling revealed nothing. We all know the current situation with Firefox updates, insofar as once Mozilla release a new version, the old one is considered obsolete and won’t get any further security updates. Of course this is a matter for concern if you are a Firefox user, but I understand when you say it is causing other issues. Fine. I can wait now I know what has happened.

Still, thanks.

Don’t take me too serious. And I am glad that you asked and that we now have a thread with a title that will draw people with the same question as you had. And they will find a conclusive answer here IMHO. Thanks to you asking.
(The above is to be taken serious).

And feel free to ask next time when you are in doubt or have a problem.

It’s not new versions we’re crying about, it’s bug-fixes.
For example, in 11.4, Gnucash has received no bug-fixes officially. The
latest official version available on “update” is only 2.4.0. The latest
on Gnome/apps is 2.4.9 but, of course, we’re supposed to be taking a
risk by using that repo - more of a risk than ignoring nine bug-fixing
updates?

Similarly, Firefox and Thunderbird are bug-fixes though, to make them
seem more up-to-date, Mozilla call them new versions.

please do not write, but use copy/paste.

No need to bother with it now as Fx11 should be out in a few minutes…[grin]
